Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect
Everyone who suspects that a child may be suffering from or at substantial risk of abuse or neglect must report this to our agency.
A child is defined as anyone under the age of sixteen.
Abuse may be physical, sexual, or emotional, and may be caused by a parent, guardian, or other adult who has contact with the child.
Neglect includes poor physical care, lack of supervision, failure to obtain medical care, exposure to family violence, or failure to obtain services for emotional or behavioural problems.
Referrals may be made by professionals, family members, or concerned citizens.
Parents and children may also call to obtain help.
In most cases the source of the referral will not be revealed.
You may contact us by mail, telephone, or in person. We prefer that you telephone if you have a concern.
