Children in Care

Children may come into care of the agency either through an agreement with the parents or by a court order. The agency is responsible to provide these children with a high standard of care similar to what a good parent would provide.

We prefer to provide this wherever possible in a family setting and are able to do this for approximately 70% of our children. Most of these children live with foster families, and some live with relatives who have agreed to work with us to raise these children.

Some children are cared for in staffed residential settings. Such facilities must be licenced and meet high standards.

Where possible, we work to return children to their parents’ care. When children cannot live with their parents, it is important to maintain regular ties and contact with their family through phone calls and visits.

Every child in care is assigned to a social worker who must insure that the child receives good care. Planning for care includes the child, the care provider, the parents, and the worker.
