Christmas Angels Program

The Christmas Angel Show has been an annual event since 1977. It is held during the first Sunday of December at the Windsor Community Center, featuring the live performances of local entertainment, including the participation of most local elementary school. Both the local radio and cable stations, AVR and Eastlink, air the show on their stations for the entire day.

The show generates pledges of money for the less fortunate families of Hants County. The monies assist the parents in providing gifts to their children and allowing the family to celebrate the season with their traditions as do others. Family and Children’s Services distributes an equal amount for each child under 16 years to the parent , who is then able to and are responsible for purchasing their own child’s gifts. To date, approximately 20,000 children have been assisted with the $ 513,000 that has been donated through the telethon.

For the month of December, the following financial institutions have accepted donations for Christmas Angels: The Royal Bank located in Windsor, Scotia Bank in Hantsport, as well as all branches of the Victory Credit Union in Windsor, Brooklyn, Kempt and Kennetcook .Family & Children’s Services located in Windsor at 1469 King Street accepts donations throughout the year.

Funds donated to the Christmas Daddies show, which is aired from Halifax on ATV now go to another charity. This has created new challenges regarding funding, as this typically added another $5000 towards our cause. Other avenues for funds have and need to be developed.

These are examples of what was done during the year 2001:

A fire fighter from the Brooklyn Fire Department completes a 14 km walk, while wearing all of his fire fighting gear.

Family and Children’s Services along with the RCMP have the annual Fore! The Kids Golf Tournament at the Avon Valley Golf Club in June.

Hawbolt’s Furnishings of Windsor had a duck pond at their booth at the Hants County Exhibition.

All Tim Horton’s stores in Windsor made Christmas Angels their charity of choice for their annual Happy Face Cookie Campaign held in October.
